There are fashion shows, and then there are fashion spectaculars. There is no doubt that night two of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane was the latter.
Set against the magnificent backdrop of St John’s Cathedral, Australia’s premier designers delighted the audience with their stellar collections. It’s never easy to choose a favourite in an MBFF group show as I can always appreciate the amount of time, effort and love that has been poured into each and every design, but this show took things to a whole new level. To me the mark of a brilliant collection from any designer is exceptional tailoring, a hint of sparkle and that signature style that makes the collection their own; and that’s exactly what we saw.
Camilla opened the show with a bedazzled collection that had me dreaming of being whisked away to a tropical island, Moreno Marcos blew us away with her signature avant-garde couture and Ginger & Smart, Bianca Spender and Dion Lee presented collections that were true to their cult status.
While I’ve just mentioned it would be impossible to pick favourites from a show as strong as last night’s I could not resist mentioning how beautiful the work of White Label Noba, Scanlan Theodore, Ella Moda and George Wu is. These designers have gone above and beyond, made me want to pour my lifesavings into their stores and to praise them from the rooftops.
I hope you enjoy this selection of photos from the night by the oh-so-talented Richard Smith (@rsit_richard) and follow my Instagram stories for some videos from the night.
